How is sustainability marked on i-dest.com?

On our website, we indicate how each destination and service relates to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals – for example, nature conservation, the use of clean energy, or supporting local economies – help to understand how committed a given destination or service is to sustainability.

In addition, we use a separate system to present the level of sustainability, which is based on the certification system of Green Destinations, developed according to the standards of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

Destinations are evaluated based on our own system developed according to the Green Destinations certification framework.
Tourism service providers are presented according to our own system developed based on the Good Travel Seal program.
This information can be found at the bottom of each destination’s page and is presented in percentages, showing to what extent the given destination meets each criterion.

The I-DEST.COM own summarized sustainability indicator

On the website, you will find a clover-shaped icon system at each destination, which summarizes the sustainability level of the given destination or service.

  • 1 leaf (40-60%): First steps – the destination has already started on the path towards sustainability.
  • 2 leaves (60-75%): Conscious development – continuously working towards more sustainable operations.
  • 3 leaves (75-90%): Exemplary – the destination makes outstanding contributions to achieving sustainability goals.
  • 4 leaves (over 90%): Most sustainable – destinations and providers at the forefront, fully representing sustainability.

You can find the icons in the top-right corner of the destination or provider’s page, providing an immediate overview of their sustainability level.
