Hungarian Association of Regional and Urban Developers

The Founding of the Hungarian Association of Regional and Urban Developers

The idea to establish the Hungarian Association of Regional and Urban Developers was conceived during the "Meeting of Regions" conference held on 19-20 September 2002. The conference was organised as a professional gathering for graduates of the regional and urban development management programme at the University of Miskolc. During the event, participants recognised the need for a professional association that could provide a platform for discussing common issues faced by professionals working in regional and urban development. The association would coordinate the collective efforts of these professionals, who are trained in regional and urban development, in professional, scientific, and public activities.

As regional development policy becomes increasingly significant with the completion of the European integration process, it is essential that the opinions of regional and urban development professionals receive prominent attention.

The Objectives of the Association

The objectives of the Association are outlined in the founding statutes adopted at the inaugural general meeting held on 24 October 2002. According to the statutes, the Association is open to accepting as members any individuals with higher education qualifications, representing their interests, and providing a platform for discussing professional opinions. As part of its activities, the Association places a strong emphasis on promoting the professional and social recognition of regional and urban developers, organising conferences and training sessions, and fostering domestic and international relations.

The Operation of the Association

The officers coordinating the work of the Association perform their duties on a voluntary basis, without receiving any remuneration or expense reimbursement. Regular members pay an annual membership fee of 1,000 HUF, which covers the operational costs of the Association.

Supporting members of the Association can include Hungarian and foreign individuals and legal entities who contribute to the work of the Association, particularly in organising conferences, training sessions, and professional study trips. The Association also participates in grant applications related to such activities to supplement the financial support provided by its members.

Sustainability

Our Association's primary goal is to enable as many Hungarian settlements as possible to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To this end, our organisation organises training sessions, awareness-raising programmes, and conferences, and seeks to collaborate with all civil organisations working towards similar objectives. In this spirit, we are also working on the development of i-dest.com, as we understand the importance of implementing tourism and urban development based on objective metrics.
