Additional information
Fascination with the medieval era captivates people of all ages, whether through literature, films, or modern video games. The Field of Knightly Tournaments, located at the foot of Diósgyőr Castle, brings this era to life each year with the spectacular Medieval Festival. Here, mounted archers, falconers, and historical re-enactors march and battle, reviving the spirit of the Middle Ages. Built in 2015, the Field of Knightly Tournaments became Central Europe’s first open-air venue for medieval reenactments. The arena itself measures 90×30 meters, surrounded by covered stands with seating for 750 people. The arena is covered with special sand, suitable for various weather conditions. In addition to thrilling knightly games, the program features concerts, music and dance performances, and craft fairs. The Medieval Festival’s main attraction is the royal procession, where the medieval court appears in full splendor before the audience. The site hosts not only historical reenactments but also sports events, such as dressage and show jumping. Alongside these events, culinary gatherings and wine tastings take place in the market area. Beneath the site, remains of a medieval water system have been unearthed and now serve as an exhibition space. Silver coins found here reflect the castle’s historical significance, tracing back to the time of John Hunyadi.
