Additional information
Gömöri Railway Station, Miskolc’s smaller train station, has been serving passengers and shipments headed to the northern region for over 125 years and is a true Neo-Renaissance masterpiece. Despite often being overlooked with time, its architectural value has earned it the title of "the most beautiful Hungarian railway station" multiple times from Hungarian State Railways. Designed by Ferenc Pfaff, a notable architect of the Dual Monarchy era responsible for several significant provincial stations, the building boasts harmonious proportions and intricate details. Its clinker brick walls, sandstone capitals, and terracotta reliefs showcase the Neo-Renaissance style. The station's long, symmetrical structure and characteristic oculus windows highlight its elegance, while the cast-iron columns supporting the platform canopy provide shelter for passengers against the elements. Although the station has lost some importance over recent decades, especially with the rise of road transport and the discontinuation of the tram line, it remains a valuable part of industrial and cultural heritage. Declared a historical monument in 1989, future renovation plans envision it potentially transforming into an intermodal hub or a market for local producers, preserving the building's dignity and historical significance.
